Mike MeadorsMike Meadors is a self taught Texas born artist. Born and raised on the Gulf Coast, his work tends to lean toward coastal themes. His primary residence is the small boating community of Turtle Cove, located about 40 miles south of Galveston.
Although the majority of Mike's work is water color on paper, some of his best work has been pastel drawings, acrylic on canvas and metal sculpture. Though Mike has created paintings for many years, his artwork has only become available on the market as recently as 2008.
Primarily employed as a consultant for a major domestic automobile manufacturer, Mike prefers to paint in the evenings while he travels extensively through the southern region of the United States. This affords him the opportunity to see areas and people that insipre him for future art projects.
"Most of my work is colorful and the images are ususally positive in nature. I really don't do anything negative. People don't travel or visit the coast to be unhappy. Hopefully my art will convey that message." - Mike Meadors
Matt MatijczykMatt Matijczyk is the Artist and Owner of Point Arena Tileworks. Matt creates unique hand made tiles, fired on site at his Studio-Showroom in Point Arena California. The tiles created by Point Arena Tileworks are unique, and as a result no two come out the same. They are hand cut, decorated, and glazed. Matt makes all his own molds; some from drawings, some from photos, some from his life experiences (multiple examples of tiles are shown so you can see for yourself how much they vary.) Prices are far lower than the other "hand made" tilemakers, though not at the expense of quality. Matt heats his fires to "cone II" (most tilemakers do not fire this hot). While slightly more expensive to manufacture, this makes the tiles very hard and durable. Point Arena Tileworks also makes fused glass tiles with a sparkling crackle glaze. These are created by applying broken recycled glass to the tiles prior to loading them in the glaze load. The glass melts and fuses to the tiles, a dazzling effect that creates a deep watery look; some describe them as "geode-like". The glass never comes out the same way twice--it melts, runs, at flows at will--always unique and one of a kind. If you order online or by phone, the tiles that you receive will not be exactly like the ones shown here. They will be made from the same molds and have similar colors but being hand made, each tile is different, and that is why it is best to visit our Houston or Galveston showroom and choose for yourself. The Frog At Home features Five, Ten, and Forty Dollar Tiles as well as Murals, and Fish Sets from Point Arena Tileworks. Leah E. Jennifer PeckJennifer is an artist who lives and works in her studio on the west end of Galveston Island. With a degree in art from the University of Colorado and over 20 years in the art business, she has taken a side step in showing her own work. Operating galleries in San Francisco and Austin, she has been exposed to an immense amount of art enabling her to refine her taste and find her own style. She has learned from and been influenced by some of the very painters she spent years promoting. Loving the outdoors, Galveston Island and its beaches, birds, flowers and seasons provide infinite inspiration and the perfect setting to focus on it. Her paintings reflect island life filled with bright-saturated colors and whimsy. Acrylic on panel, painted and collaged the images are playful and happy. Text, stories and words are ripped and cut and along with colored paper they sit on top of painted surfaces. They celebrate the beauty of Galveston and tell a story of life at the beach! "Most of my ideas come from just riding my bike around our neighborhood and the beach. What I love about Galveston is nature is always revealing itself where ever you go. Things are always evolving and changing so you never know what your going to see next. There is beauty and rawness and color everywhere, all in a big playground! My hope is to show the viewer what they love about Galveston in a fresh way, bring a little of the outdoors in and put a smile on their face!" |
